They definitely give (from a non-Japanese speaker's perspective) a greater sense of terror and fear than the previous game. Huge kudos to the voice actresses in this title. And despite your partner being eaten all the time, the only cinematics are for your own character. Some of the cinematics feature collision detection errors which are difficult to ignore. If you didn't like the formula of the previous game then it's pretty much the same hack and slash element.with rendered cinematics showing your characters demise when their health falls to zero. And generally the monsters are a lot more diverse in nature, with many more cinematics to deal with each one.
